A children's story
Binnie was born in a rubbish tin in Dubai. She wanted a better life and made her way into the foyer of a large apartment block. This small brown bundle of fur took the eye of a kindly Australian pilot who lived upstairs. He took her home.
The pilot was often away but Binnie had a friend. . . the cleaning lady who came to feed her and stayed to play.
One day the pilot left to join a new airline in Australia. But Binnie wasn't worried because the pilot's girlfriend moved in. She had a brown cat when she was a child so loved her new companion. She was often away too. . . crew on a big airliner travelling the world. But the cleaning lady always came.
Then the girlfriend left to return home to Brisbane and Binnie had the ride of her life on another big plane. But she went to a strange place called quarantine in Sydney. Where were her friends? The girlfriend sent some tee shirts so Binnie would remember her. But Binnie was sad. . .had her friends abandoned her? Four long weeks passed then the pilot and his girlfriend came to take her home. Binnie was flying to Brisbane. There was a garden. . . soft and green. Binnie loved playing there and exploring neighbouring gardens. Soon there was a wedding. Binnie was happy. But the pilot was moving again. Binnie was on another big plane to Hong Kong and went straight to her new home. But there was no green grass. She lived high above the streets in the Mid Levels on Hong Kong Island. Binnie spent her day at a picture window looking down on busy Bonham Road. She could see the green park and soccer field. . . people doing Tai Chi and playing sport. She could even see Hong Kong Harbour, and some nights the shrill sound of the Chinese Opera came right through the thick glass. Binnie was happy and soon she had another special friend, baby Tom to play with.
Binnie doesn't even mind when the pilot and his family go on holiday. . . Tom's Amah comes to feed her and stays to play. . . and there's always the wonderful reunion with her family again.
